A national platform is, according to the organisation ecopa (European Consensus-Platform for Alternatives), a competence centre or forum where representatives from the four stakeholders interested in animal research can aim to reach consensus on issues relating to animal research within the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine):
- Government
- Academia
- Animal welfare organisations
- Industry
Norecopa is a full member of ecopa. A review article describing the function of ecopa has been published in Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology in 2005. So far, 14 countries including Norway have established ecopa-approved National Platforms:
