Ileum
Record number: 10
Category: Pharmacology
Type: Computer Program
.jpg)
| Description: Ileum accurately simulates laboratory experiments which investigate the effects of drugs on the in vitro guinea-pig ileum. It is possible to mimic experiments to identify an unknown compound. Random elements are incorporated into ILEUM to simulate the inherent biological variability in the response to the same dose of agonist. ILEUM can be used quantitatively or qualitatively and a representation of a "chart trace" is produced on screen. This can be printed out and measured and analyzed in the usual way. Drugs available for the Ileum simulation are: AGONISTS: Acetylcholine, Carbachol, Angiotensin, Histamine, Potassium chloride, Tetramethylammonium, Furmethide, Methacholine, Vasopressin, Barium chloride, Hexyltrimethylammonium and Dimethylphenylpiperazinium. ANTAGONISTS: Atropine, Hexamethonium, Papaverine, Mepyramine, Lignocaine and Eserine.
Comments & References: Suitable for first and second year physiology/pharmacology classes and would be of use in some medical courses. Requirements: Ileum is compatible with all versions of Windows including 3.1, 95, 98 and NT. Screenshot and a downloadable demo are available at http://www.biosoft.com/w/ileum.htm. This program can be ordered online.
