Muscle Control
Record number: 4056
Category: Physiology
Type: CD-ROM
Description: Muscle Control is an interactive multimedia program that teaches students contraction behaviour of a muscle by stimulating the muscle with a series of electrical stimuli. The student conducts the experiment himself, interprets the data, draws conclusions and tries to explain them. In addition, the information given in this program teaches the student to learn to classify information when writing a report. The student can use both skeletal and cardiac muscle to find out how muscular strength is controlled, and which physiological and morphological features are involved. The program aims to: Teach the student the regulation of muscle control and how to write a report. The program includes four scientific structures: Introduction: how to define research questions; Materials & methods: Including surgery; Results: The data are obtained by experimentation and then analysed ; Discussion: Which morphological and physiological features are used to explain the results. This program includes video images with audio and there are hyperlinks to background information. At the end of the program, students are automatically referred to a web-based questionnaire about the usefulness of the program. The use of high-quality video during surgery and experiments, together with the scientific structure, makes the program a realistic representation and a good replacement of experiments on frogs.
