Observing and Recording Mouse Behaviours - "Mouse Watch"
Record number: 4445
Category: Behaviour and Pharmacology
Type: CD-ROM
Description: The program helps the students to identify characteristics of the appearance of a normal or a drug treated mouse and some of the simple behaviours shown by a normal mouse. Having become familiar with these features students can be presented with short or long sequences of behaviours which they score either on the system built into the program or using any other system they choose. The sequence of behaviours can then be replayed exactly as already seen or replayed so that the same behaviours are seen but in a different order. In this way consistency and reproducibility of observation can be assessed. The program cannot replace entirely experience of observing live mice but can introduce students to the problems of recording mouse behaviours and becoming a consistent observer. The program is designed to help students to: Recognise different aspects of normal mouse appearance; Recognise some drug induced changes in mouse appearance; Become familiar with a scoring system to record mouse behaviours; Become consistent and reliable in their scoring of mouse behaviours.
